Ex-Manchester United prospect vows to get one over on Celtic

Hearts defender Adam Eckersley wants his side to beat Celtic.

Hearts defender Adam Eckersley is keen to make amends for his previous display against Celtic, by knocking them out of the Scottish Cup this weekend.

The full-back had a game to forget against the SPL champions when they last met, in the fourth round of the League Cup.

Celtic beat Hearts 3-0, and Eckersley found the scoresheet at the wrong end, netting an own goal.

While Celtic are busy preparing to face Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday in the Europa League, Hearts are focused on Sunday's clash and Eckersley feels they can win it.

He is quoted in the Express: "We can beat Celtic. It will be a tall order, but we’ve got the squad to do that, especially at home with the fans.

“We were a little bit unlucky when we went there in the League Cup. Hopefully there will be no repeat of an own-goal from me as well. But that’s part of football, I suppose."

Eckersley has had a varied career, starting off at Manchester United in the youth team, even featuring for the first team in the League Cup.

He was later sold to Port Vale, and he has spent the last two seasons in Denmark before signing for Hearts in the summer on a one year deal. In the SPL he has one goal and one assist in eight games.
