Manchester City fans react on Twitter to Mangala's performance against Bayern

Eliaquim Mangala

Manchester City fans have praised Eliaquim Mangala after his display against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night.

Sergio Aguero may have stolen all the headlines last night during Manchester City's 3-2 win over Bayern Munich, but Eliaquim Mangala also won over a number of supporters.

Aguero's hat-trick was a fine example of his quality, and continued his remarkable scoring record this season, but Mangala was a rock at the heart of City's defence.

The former Porto man has come under criticism since signing for the club over the summer, but this was arguably his best performance to date.

Munich's quality is obvious, but they struggled to get past Mangala, who finally showed why City paid out £32 million to get his signature.

The French international was sharper than the German side's forwards and looked composed throughout the match.

His task, of course, was made significantly easier by the fact that Bayern were sent down to ten-men so early on, but he still impressed with the way he dealt with Robert Lewandowski.

Mangala was pro-active with his defending and made four interceptions during the match, while he also was very accurate with his distribution. He also made one tackle and won one aerial duel.

It was a vital win for City who are now on the verge of an unlikely qualification to the knockout stages. The Citizens need to go to Roma and win next week to ensure their progress.

For this they much to Aguero's goalscoring exploits, as he scored two goals in the final ten minutes to help them beat the German champions, but Mangala, too, will feel he played a vital part - even if he hasn't received so much acclaim for his display.

Here is the best reaction from City supporters on Twitter to Mangala's performance against Bayern.
