Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has named the most competitive players in training.
United’s £14 million summer signing Dalay Blind recently claimed that Rooney is the competitive player during training sessions.
And the England international agrees, although he is generous enough to add two of his teammates’ names on the list along with Blind's.
“Yeah I’d probably say myself and Fletch [Darren Fletcher] really!” the 29-year-old told United’s official website. “Rafael is always another one and obviously Daley has come in and been really competitive.
"I think the way the squad is now means it’s really competitive and we want to win in training. You’re disappointed if you’re on the losing team so I think everyone is quite competitive.”
Rooney’s comments about competitiveness in training also suggest just how fierce competition is for places in United team.
Despite United struggling for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, Louis van Gaal’s side do have a strong team with cover in each department (except maybe in defensive midfield).
One could argue that United lack true quality in defence, but there are a number of youngsters who have stepped up and are progressing in that department.
