Jonny Evans looks set to play a part for Manchester United's reserve team this week.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has been tipped to return to action for the club’s reserve side on Tuesday evening.

The Northern Ireland international has missed United’s last seven matches with a malleolar injury but according to the club’s official website he could be included in the side that faces Blackburn Rovers in the Lancashire Senior Cup.

The report adds that Evans could play in place of Paddy McNair, who has shone for the first-team in recent weeks and played his part in the 2-1 victory against Arsenal on Saturday.

Given the ongoing defensive issues at United, Evans’ apparent return will be timely and manager Louis van Gaal will be hoping not just to get players back to fitness, but to keep them that way as he approaches the busy festive period.

Evans’ experience will be vital in the games ahead, and as well as McNair and Tyler Blackett have done so far, an older head will be welcomed back into the United senior setup with open arms.
