Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro has suffered another injury problem, which will keep him out until the New Year.
The Brazilian has been plagued with fitness problems in recent times, and this latest knee injury is set to keep on the treatment table for a lengthy period of time.
Sandro picked up the injury during QPR's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend, and the R's club doctor confirmed that it was a severe one earlier today.
“Sandro took a bad knock to his right knee, and has suffered damage to his medial ligaments. It is totally unrelated to his previous ACL injury," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Sandro has had a succession of fitness problems recently, and it is a major blow to Harry Redknapp's side as they look to beat the drop.
The 25-year-old has made just eight appearances since singing at Loftus Road, with his injury problems becoming frequent.
It is has left Tottenham Hotspur fans pleased that they cashed in on Sandro while he still had some value left.
Spurs' decision to sell the powerhouse central midfiedler was largely criticised by the White Hart Lane faithful, but they are coming round to the opinion that it was good business for the club.
Although Sandro's quality is unquestionable, his inability to stay away from the treatment table means that he is not proving as valuable to the R's as they would have hoped.
The worry is now that these injury problems will persist for the rest of Sandro's career, and there is little optimism that he will remain fit for a long time when he does return to action after Christmas.
Here is some of the reaction to Sandro's injury from QPR and Tottenham supporters on social media site Twitter.
Disappointing thing about Sandro's injury is that Barton will be picked now. More crappy corners/free-kicks & aimless 30 yard passes. #QPR— Mark Coughlan (@MarkCoughlan) November 25, 2014
@angeleyesQPR Sandro when fit is a very important player in our team.Trouble is we need him fit and playing regularly. It ain't gonna happen.— Ben Mastrangelo (@Kett_Ben64) November 25, 2014
Bad news on Sandro for QPR as when he plays well he improves the team. Such an important player but seems to be made of glass. #QPR— John Smith (@monkey_sponge) November 25, 2014
Just seen the Sandro news, not good and a big miss. CM is probably the only place we could afford to lose an influential player though. #qpr— Billy Rice (@dangerrice) November 25, 2014
Sandro out until after Xmas, well there's a surprise! We'd have been as well signing Sandra #QPR— Adam Parkes (@superhoop1882) November 25, 2014
Sandro always injured, Faurlin, Mutch injured/unfit, Hoillet's/Traore's hamstrings, Taarabt's issues, players rushed back then re-injured...— Mark Coughlan (@MarkCoughlan) November 25, 2014
At least Sandro's injury means 'Arry's got another excuse up his sleeve for our next defeat he can add to Remy leaving and 'no pace' #QPR— Michael (@MichaelHi92) November 25, 2014
Sandro out until the new year with his dodgy knee again. Can't believe QPR paid 10 million for him. Not been the same player for 2 years.— Darren Kempson (@Bubkempson) November 25, 2014
@spursshow Sandro out for 2 months with a knee injury. Therein lies the problem. When fit , does a great job but too much time out ...— Dave Ellis (@fullback03) November 25, 2014
#thfc I got two things badly wrong in the summer. I thought Schneiderlin would be a pointless signing & I thought selling Sandro was stupid.— The Tottenham Way (@TheTottenhamWay) November 25, 2014
Impossible not to feel sorry for Sandro. Genuinely looked like he was going to be one of the best holding midfielders around at one point.— Bankrupt (@bankruptspurs) November 25, 2014
Sandro injured for another two months. Getting £10m for him looks increasingly like genius by Levy rather than a complete cock-up.— Mac (@BillyMacfarlane) November 25, 2014
