Manchester United's £30 million summer signing was in action for the under-21 side this evening.
Ander Herrera was been battling back from injury and was in need of game time to prepare him for first team action once again.
The Spaniard netted in a 5-0 win over Blackburn, with Will Keane and Andreas Pereira also scoring, before Joe Rothwell added two second half goals.
Herrera is likely to be in with a chance of playing in the first team at the weekend against a struggling Hull City, with Radamel Falcao also in line for a return.
The Colombian was not involved against Rovers, but Belgian attacker Adnan Januzaj did start - along with defender Jonny Evans who completed 64 minutes.
The only sour note of the evening came with young defender Tom Thorpe, who was the side's captain, sustained an injury United's website described as 'serious-looking', to add another name to the club's treatment table.
