'Boots back on' - Good news Newcastle as Siem de Jong steps up recovery

Siem de Jong is back on the Newcastle United training pitch following a thigh injury.

Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong has posted another fitness update as he steps up his recovery from a serious injury.

The Dutch player tore a tendon in his thigh early in his Newcastle career and he has been side-lined ever since, but the former Ajax star took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to reveal that he finally had his boots back on and was embarking on his first training session outside since his setback.

Many hailed de Jong's signing as the best of Alan Pardew's summer shopping spree, but the 25-year-old has had to wait patiently while his teammates have surged up the table with some fine performances.

De Jong scored 78 goals for Ajax and Newcastle will be hoping that he nets plenty for them in due course, but for now he will simply be happy to be back training again, with an expected return-date in early 2015 if not before.
