Derby County captain Shaun Barker has been singing the praises of the club’s youngsters.
The 32-year-old defender was involved in ‘light training’ with the Rams’ Under-18 squad on Monday, and it seems that he was impressed with what he saw.
Great to be involved in light training with the @dcfcacademy under 18s today! Some decent young players in their squad.— Shaun Barker (@barks5) November 24, 2014
Barker’s comments suggest that Derby’s long-term future is bright. The Rams are looking good to regain promotion from the Championship at the end of the season, and it appears that they will have a long-term future in the Premier League.
The East Midlands clubs have not been in the Premier League since 2008 and fell just short of promotion last season.
However, this term it promises to be different. At the moment, Steve McClaren’s side are at the top of the Championship table with 35 points from 18 points, three points clear of second-placed Bournemouth.
