Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has been named in the club’s reserve squad for their Lancashire Senior Cup match this evening.
The Spanish midfielder has not played since coming off at half-time against West Bromwich Albion, spending the last four matches as an unused substitute.
Herrera fractured a rib against Everton but made what appeared to be a swift recovery to feature in the very next match against the Baggies. However, United’s summer signing came off as a precaution at the interval and has not featured since.
The 25-year-old’s extended stay on the bench has prompted some ludicrous claims that the player is no longer wanted at United and could move on as soon as January. But of course the simple fact is Louis van Gaal will want to ensure his player is fully fit before risking him again.
It appears the latest stage in his recovery will come with the reserves this evening and if he comes through that match unscathed Herrera could well return for United’s next Premier League match against Hull City this weekend.
