David de Gea was backed heavily by Manchester United fans when asked on Facebook who they thought the main man was in the win against Arsenal on Saturday.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper was in inspired form as depleted United side were able to stun Arsenal at the Emirates and snatch all three points.
Antonio Valencia's effort early in the second half became the turning point of the match as his low shot deflected off the unfortunate Kieran Gibbs and beyond Wojciech Szczesny to put an under the cosh Red Devils into the lead.
It was made worse for Arsenal supporters as their side bound forward in search of an equaliser and Wayne Rooney was able to take advantage of Arsene Wenger's gung-ho approach to all but kill the game in favour of Louis van Gaal's side. A late consolation strike from Olivier Giroud made it a nervy finish but Arsenal couldn't find a second and the three points went to United.
After the match, supporters clamoured on social networking websites to praise for the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, further showing their appreciation when it came to the Man of the Match voting on Manchester United's official Facebook site.
91% of supporters opted for the Spanish goalkeeper in the vote that contained Marouane Fellaini (7%) and Chris Smalling (2%), quantifying just how key supporters thought he was to the victory.
After a slow start to life in Manchester, it's safe to say De Gea has now endeared himself to supporters, especially given his performances this season. Louis van Gaal has found it difficult to stick a consistent back four, or five, together and at times that has shown.
Nevertheless, De Gea has proven himself extremely solid over and over again and United's place in the top four can't be credited to anyone more than him. He has shown he truly deserved to be in a team in a Champions League position.
