A reworking of the area beneath Resident Evil’s Graveyard shows how some of the game has been completely remade using polygons.
The upcoming HD remake of Resident Evil, while attempting to stay true to the original, has in places led the development team to completely remake parts of the game.
In the video shown below Resident Evil producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi details an area found under the mansion’s graveyard. In the original Resident Evil this area’s dynamic lighting effects were achieved with the use of a video file. It was decided however that to improve the look of the scene altogether that it should be completely remade using polygons.
According to Hirabayashi it was considered that the whole game should be remade in this way, but it was decided that this could run the risk of making the game feel “soulless.” For this reason the team have evaluated the remake on a case-by case basis, meaning only some areas will undergo full polygon treatments.
Resident Evil is set to make its HD return in early 2015 on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
