Arsenal: Jack Wilshere's X-Ray results, games he will and could miss, worst case scenario

All Arsenal fans need to know about Jack Wilshere's fitness.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere looked in severe pain when he sustained an ankle injury against Manchester United.

The England international was able to hobble off the pitch, not requiring the stretcher, which was an encouraging sign.

Now The Mirror report Wilshere has undergone an x-ray, with a positive outcome, but is not out of the woods yet.

"X-rays have shown there was no break but the England midfielder has got potential ligament damage."

How this affects Arsenal going forward, here is a look at what we do know:

The game he will miss:

Both The Mirror and The Telegraph report Wilshere will almost certainly miss the midweek Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund, quoting Arsene Wenger as saying he has 'very little chance'. Arsenal are five points behind the Germans in the group with two games to go. A loss could even see them slip to third if Anderlecht beat Galatasaray.

Ankle ligament injuries:

An ankle ligament injury can differ between three different severities from mild, moderate to severe. Mild damage can heal within 2-3 weeks, moderate 4-6 and severe up to 12.

If he's lucky he will be back for, but could miss:

It's possible Wilshere does not have ligament damage, and just a soft tissue injury. If Wilshere is lucky, he could be back for the weekend's game against West Brom, following midweek fixture against Southampton, and trip to Stoke City the following weekend. Should he have a mild ligament injury, he could miss all of these.

Worst case scenario games he will miss:

Wilshere did not leave the ground on crutches, and so a severe problem could likely be ruled out. The worst case scenario Arsenal are likely looking at is six weeks.

This would rule him out of all of the games previously mentioned, plus the final Champions League group game away to Galatasaray, and league fixtures with Newcastle, Liverpool and QPR.
