Could a former Manchester United player influence a potential future great's decision?
The Stromsgodset midfielder is nothing short of a sensation having made his debut for the Norwegian senior side at just 15 and scoring some wonderful goals in domestic competition.
The attacking midfielder is the very definition of that overly used term ‘wonder-kid’ and if he continues on his current trajectory he should become one of the best players in Europe within the next five years.
A whole host of clubs have been linked with Odegaard, with the player himself recently said to be holding out for a move to Liverpool. However, the latest claims are that is a two-horse race between Real and United and that the teenager will decide after his 16th birthday.
At first glance it would make sense to assume Real will be in the box-seat given their position in the game and the players currently on their books, but it is a man no longer playing the game who could turn Odegaard’s head towards Old Trafford.
It is fair to say Ole Gunnaer Solskjaer is a legend in his homeland, just as he is at United, and the former Norway striker’s time in England will not have gone unnoticed by those close to Odegaard, along with the player himself.
Odegaard will be well aware that Solskjaer blossomed at United; that he became an all-time great there despite his reputation as a super-sub.
If he does move to Old Trafford, Odegaard will spend far more time on the field than on the bench in the long term, and knowing Solskjaer was at the front of some fine Norwegian talent that has excelled in England in recent years, do not be surprised if Odegaard ultimately arrives at United.
