Atletico Madrid defender Miranda is back in the headlines once more, with the Daily Star picking up on claims from Spain that the La Liga champions may consider a £20million bid from Manchester United in January.

However, the claim comes from Spanish transfer rumour website Fichajes, meaning the headlines suggesting a deal has already been done should be approached with pessimism.

At this stage it is pure speculation and given Miranda’s recent comments suggesting he is perfectly happy in Madrid, United fans may not want to get excited just yet.

In other news, Voetbal International has launched a campaign in the hope that United forward Robin van Persie wins the FIFA Puskas Award for best goal of 2014.

The website has encouraged Dutch supporters to vote for the player’s sublime header against Spain at the World Cup, under the headline ‘Help van Persie win the Puskas award’.

Given the competition, that will be easier said than done.
