Luke Varney may have been on the books of Leeds United until the summer, but at the moment he is not very popular with the club’s fans.
The incident happened towards the end of the game with the match level at 1-1 and hosts Rovers a man down.
The 32-year-old former Derby County attacker went down inside the Leeds penalty box with Sam Byram adjudged by the referee to have brought him down.
A spot-kick was given, and Jordan Rhodes made no mistake from 12 yards, guiding Blackburn to a 2-1 comeback win.
Leeds fans were furious with Varney and claimed that the attacker had dived. Below are the best reactions of the West Yorkshire club’s supporters on social networking site Twitter.
But Luke Varney though. Never dived as well as that when he played for #LUFC did he...— Matt Mann (@matt_mann95) November 23, 2014
Just me that thought we played well yesterday? One bad mistake and a Tom Daley dive from Varney/poor referring cost us... #lufc— Michael Williams (@michaelw999) November 23, 2014
Cheats don't do shame so no point tweeting Varney should be ashamed. #lufc— pattayarag (@pattayarag) November 23, 2014
I've looked at the footage eleven times now, and that's never a penalty. Luke Varney should be ashamed. #LUFC— DARREN PARKIN (@DP_tweets) November 23, 2014
