Jamie Redknapp does not seem to rate Liverpool defender Javier Manquillo.
The 20-year-old right-back joined the Reds from Atletico Madrid on a two-year loan deal in the summer transfer window.
Manquillo is highly rated and is said to have huge potential, but his performances for Liverpool have been mixed so far this season.
On Sunday, the Spaniard had one of his worst games for the Merseyside outfit as they went down 3-1 to Crystal Palace away from home in the Premier League.
The Spain Under-21 international right-back was beaten time and time again by Palace’s 25-year-old winger Yannick Bolasie, but former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp was not surprised.
“Yannick Bolasie put in one of the best performances of the season, but any winger would have fancied their chances against Javi Manquillo,” the 41-year-old wrote in The Daily Mail.
It is perhaps harsh to criticise Manquillo too much at this point in time. After all, he has played in fewer than 20 league games - Premier League and La Liga combined.
There is little doubt that the youngster has potential, but he needs to be given time and afforded patience.
Perhaps Manquillo also needs some guidance from the senior players in Liverpool’s defence as the season progresses.
