Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has revealed that it was always in the gameplan to try to force a mistake from Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.
The 23-year-old has been one of the best players for Leeds so far this season, but it was his howler that cost the Whites all three points in the Championship clash at Ewood Park on Saturday.
The Italian goalkeeper failed to make a routine clearance in the 71st minute of the contest and ended up in creating a mix-up with defender Liam Cooper, allowing Jordan Rhodes to slot home with ease in the process.
Despite Blackburn going down to 10 men late on, Rhodes’s penalty two minutes from time saw Rovers accomplish a 2-1 comeback win.
Bowyer has now stated that he and his players knew that former Chievo goalkeeper Silvestri was prone to such mistakes, and that they had prepared for such a scenario in training.
"Full credit to Jordan, he kept going chasing that lost cause, but it wasn't a fluke because we saw their goalkeeper do that against Cardiff,” Blackburn’s official website quotes him as saying.
“We prepared properly and we showed them saw they knew to chase lost causes.”
What do they say about luck favouring the brave….?
