Paul Merson says for West Ham to draw with Everton, will show their credentials.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson says West Ham's trip to Everton is the key test of their credentials to mix it at the top of the table.
The Hammers are above their opponents heading into the game at Goodison Park, after an excellent start to the season.
Everton are always a tough proposition at home for any team, and Merson has backed West Ham to take a point - which he reasonably suggests will be a fair result.
He told SkySports: "This is another big game - and one for West Ham to see where they really are after a good start to the season.
"I am going to go for a 1-1 draw as there is not much between them. That shows just how far West Ham have come."
This season however, a Hammers result may say as much about Everton as it does themselves. Roberto Martinez's side have won only one of five Premier League home games, losing two.
West Ham meanwhile are the fifth best team in the league away from home, losing only once on their travels. In many ways it would be a surprise if they come away from the stadium with a loss - which they did on their last two visits to Goodison, going down 1-0 and 2-0.
