Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Arsenal target Sami Khedira wants to remain in the Spanish capital despite rumours of unrest.
The midfielder has long been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu as his current contract with Los Blancos winds down to the expiry date next summer.
Recent reports from a Spanish radio suggested a return to the Bundesliga could be on the cards in January, although the Gunners are also said to be keen on signing him.
There is a German contingent among the North Londoners’ ranks, and many observers feel that a defensive midfielder is arguably the most important signing boss Arsene Wenger needs to make at the club.
According to Ancelotti, however, his midfield general has made it abundantly clear where he wants to be playing his football beyond next summer and contract talks are expected to commence shortly.
“Sami wants to stay here. He doesn’t want to leave Real and he told me so personally. We’ll try to renew his contract but I don’t think this is the opportune time to discuss such matters,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports Italia.
Khedira has yet to start a La Liga match for Madrid this season and has been restricted to just four substitute appearances.
However, the recent injury to Luka Modric is likely to open up a midfield spot for the former Stuttgart man and a strong run in the first team may also help speed up his talks over a new deal.
