An own goal from Kieran Gibbs and a goal on the break from Wayne Rooney did the job for Manchester United with a consolation for Olivier Giroud late on meaning little, despite being a fantastic half-volley.
But for many one of the most amusing and entertaining moments of the match was when Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and United's Marouane Fellaini went toe-to-toe.
The English international clashed with the Belgian after he had a word with the Arsenal man about a previous foul - fair to say it did not go down well.
Wilshere appeared to lose his head temporarily and squared up to Fellaini, obviously forgetting the size difference between the pair.
He ended up looking Fellaini square in the chest - not really intimidating for the Manchester United man.
In the end it took the likes of Wayne Rooney to diffuse the situation and Wilshere and Fellaini got about their business.
Unfortunately for Wilshere, his game ended on a sour note. He turned his ankle in a challenge with Paddy McNair, causing him to leave the pitch in the second half.
