Paul Merson predicts Chelsea v West Bromwich Albion

Stamford Bridge

Paul Merson predicts that Chelsea will have too much attacking talent for West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Former Arsenal midfielder and current Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes tat Chelsea will record a straightforward home victory over West Bromwich Albion.

The Blues currently top the Premier League table and have the opportunity to move seven points clear of second placed Southampton – who play on Monday – with a victory tomorrow.

It has been a wonderful start to the campaign from Jose Mourinho’s side, and they are the only team in the top flight to boast a perfect 100% home record.

The Baggies in contrast have been competent if uninspiring so far this campaign, recording 13 points from 11 matches and finding the net just three times on their travels.

Alan Irvine’s men, however, have been resolute, and away victories over Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur prove that they can compete well.

Nevertheless, the Blues at Stamford Bridge provides an entirely different proposition and with Diego Costa getting back to full fitness Paul Merson feels the West Londoners will have too much power for their rivals.

“A home win’s a certainty in this one. I watched West Brom the other week and they were a disappointment against Newcastle, who they lost 2-0 at home to,” he told Sky Sports.

“If they play anywhere near like that it will be four or five because we know about the quality that Chelsea have going forward. I am going to go for a 3-0 win for Chelsea - it will be a walk in the park.”

The Blues are currently on a club record 17-game unbeaten run from the start of the season and many observers have already started to compare them with the Arsenal invincibles.

While the Gunners’ 49-game record seems quite a distance away, Mourinho’s side seemingly have and aura about them which suggests it will take something special to stop them in their tracks.
