The former Gunners midfielder thinks Arsene Wenger's side wouldn't have scored if they were still playing their recent match against the Blues...
The former Arsenal midfielder is disappointed with the gulf in class between the two sides, with Arsene Wenger recently having conceded defeat in the title race despite the fact that we are a mere matter of months into the season.
And Merson believes the difference between the London rivals is huge - and that fans should not have to hear their manager being so defeatist so early in the campaign.
“No. I mean, they’re a million miles off Chelsea," Merson told former Arsenal striker Alan Smith during an interview for the Daily Telegraph.
"When they played them the other week, well, they could still be playing now and they wouldn’t have scored. That’s not Arsenal. Usually it’s the other way around.
"For fans paying top dollar for their season tickets, to hear the manager come out in November and say: 'We can’t win the league. Chelsea could get 100 points.’ The fans shouldn’t have to hear that.”
The Gunners host Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium later today.
