Merson: I am shocked at how many Arsenal fans want Wenger out - but they'll never sack him

The former Arsenal midfielder has been discussing the Gunners boss once more...

Paul Merson admits he is 'quite shocked' at how many Arsenal fans are now against Arsene Wenger.

The Sky Sports pundit, who was sold by Wenger as a player, recently branded the Gunners 'tactically clueless,' only for the Frenchman to hit back by stating he was 'not interested in Paul Merson.'

Merson, however, is backing the Arsenal boss and feels the club will never sack him.

But many fans feel differently...

“I was with a lot of Arsenal fans the other day and I was quite shocked at how many are against Arsene now,” Merson told former Arsenal striker Alan Smith during a Daily Telegraph interview.

“That FA Cup win is now a distant memory. And I think these next two games are massive, massive football matches. Only one set of people get you the sack and that’s the fans.

"The club are never going to sack Arsene. He makes too much money for them. But if the fans start to properly turn, that changes things.

“But what I would always say is be careful what you wish for. I saw it at a different level with Alan Curbishley at Charlton. The fans got a bit bored with always finishing mid-table in the Premier League and they thought they could do better. Well look at them now. They’re nowhere."
