Newcastle United may have turned the corner and are on a winning run, but Paul Merson believes that Alan Pardew’s side will fail to pick up all three points against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
Playing at home will give Pardew’s team an added impetus, but former Arsenal star Merson predicts that the game will end in a 1-1 draw.
“Newcastle are just flying and Alan Pardew has really turned things around after looking like he could be on his way out,” he wrote on Skysports.com. “They went to West Brom and were as comfortable as I have seen anyone at West Brom.
“QPR have turned the corner a little bit, too, and so this is not a foregone conclusion for Newcastle. I reckon QPR will hold them to a 1-1 at St James' Park.”
It will not be easy for Newcastle to win against a resurgent QPR side who are still second from bottom in the Premier League table, but they should be considered favourites.
Harry Redknapp’s side will go for the win, of course, but one suspects that Rangers will be happy with a point, which means that Newcastle will have to take the initiative.
With the crowd now behind Pardew and the players, a home victory is expected.
