Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has backed Liverpool to get the better of Crystal Palace away from home in the Premier League on Sunday.
London outfit Palace will host the Reds at Selhurst Park and will head into the encounter as the underdogs.
Neil Warnock’s side are currently a place above the relegation zone in 17th with nine points from 11 matches, level on points with third-from-bottom Leicester City.
Liverpool are 11th in the standings with 14 points and are themselves not in great form, but Merson believes that Brendan Rodgers’s team will not slip up against the Eagles.
“This is another game which is massive for both sides,” he wrote on Skysports.com. “Palace need to start winning football matches because they seem to have got into a little rut and they are dropping very quickly.
“Liverpool also need to start winning quickly otherwise their season will evaporate. I think this is a big game for Brendan Rodgers.
“He has now lost Daniel Sturridge, but just recently Palace have not been very good, so I am going to go for 2-0 to Liverpool.”
Liverpool will be without star striker Daniel Sturridge and could struggle for goals, especially as neither Rickie Lambert nor Mario Balotelli have found the target yet in the Premier League.
Palace should not be written off just yet as they can pick up a draw, but one has to back Merson in his prediction: Liverpool should win this game.
