Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes that the month of January could make or break Tottenham Hotspur’s 2014-15 campaign.
The 43-year-old former Nottingham Forest man has explained why Spurs need to win this weekend and has commented on the signings they need to make in the January transfer window.
“This is a huge weekend for Tottenham,” Collymore wrote in the Bleacher Report. “They’ve had a while to think about their defeat at home to Stoke and they need to provide a response against Hull City now. I still think they're light on strikers.
"And I'm beginning to wonder if big changes are afoot in January, with Mauricio Pochettino potentially freed to clear out the dead wood and bring some new faces in. Potentially for Spurs, January could make or break them this season.”
The need for Tottenham to sign a top-quality striker in January has been highlighted by many, but the problem is that there may not be many available.
With Roberto Soldado continuing to misfire and Emmanuel Adebayor inconsistent, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino may have to depend on youngster Harry Kane for goals for now.
However, Spurs need to be careful of what striker they sign and must assess their options carefully before making a move (click here to read more).
Perhaps both Soldado and Adebayor will step up between now and January. Tottenham will take on Hull City at the KC Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday, and perhaps the duo will pick up form then.
