Huddersfield boss Chris Powell comments on Steve Thompson's future

Chris Powell is against Steve Thompson joining Leeds United, but won't block the move.

Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell has given his take on reports linking Steve Thompson away from the club to join Leeds.

Neil Redfearn is said to want to bring Thompson in to be his assistant manager, but Powell says he would prefer his coach to stay.

He did however say that he would not stand in the way of his joint-first team coach if he makes open his desire to leave.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the weekend clash with Sheffield Wednesday, the manager said: "Well Steve is still here, he hasn't gone anywhere yet so let's get that right."

"He's part of my coaching staff and I'd like him to remain here.

"I understand, and it's been floated around for the last few weeks, I know Neil knows Steve very well and he's looking for someone.

"So if we add it up, that maybe something that could happen. I haven't spoken to Neil and I'd like Steve to stay, but equally I've been in the position before, if that comes up there's a possibility of him going.

"I'm sure he may want to talk to them and then it will be his decision."
