Arsenal morning news: Cech and Isco linked; Wilshere on holding role

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

Some rather tedious transfer rumours have been doing the rounds overnight, both involving incoming players to Arsenal.

First there is the reports of Arsenal getting ready to bid £40 million for Real Madrid star Isco. The Spanish international, who is also believed to be a target for Liverpool, is apparently top of Arsene Wenger's hit-list.

However, he has been in great form for Real this season and Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of his positional dexterity. So this seems a highly unlikely rumour.

Secondly, and Arsenal have reportedly 'agreed' a deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

It is reported that the Czech goalkeeper will switch London clubs in January for a fee in the region of £7 million.

Considering the presence of Wojciech Szczesny and summer signing David Ospina this again looks like a very unlikely deal to come to fruition.

Finally and Jack Wilshere has confirmed he wants to play in the midfield holding role on a regular basis. He has been starring in that role for England recently, picking up man-of-the-match in both of England's most recent games.

Wilshere says he has approached Arsenal boss Wenger about the topic, but that his requests were denied:

“Yes, but the formation we play at Arsenal is a bit different. I wouldn’t mind playing it at Arsenal and I’ve already spoken to the manager about it, and he doesn’t see me playing that role just yet."

If Wenger watched the way Wilshere commanded the game against Scotland on Tuesday he might have been doing the requesting.
