Sheffield Wednesday have signed Lewis McGugan on loan from Watford.

Sheffield Wednesday have clinched a loan deal to sign Lewis McGugan from Watford.

The 26-year-old joins until January 1, and the club have confirmed he will wear the shirt number 37.

The midfielder is eligible to feature against Huddersfield Town this weekend, and is match fit having last featured for the Hornets on November 4, playing 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss away to Birmingham.

He has made six appearances this season for the Hornets, including five starts, recording a pass completion rate of 84 per cent. He has created five goalscoring opportunities during his 369 minutes on the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday ideally need a striker to boost their paltry goal record of 12 in 17 games, but McGugan's arrival is the other way to tackle the problem, by supplying the service.

Wednesday have created 221 chances this season, in the six lowest teams in the Championship, and while McGugan's numbers this campaign don't add up, that he can solve the problem on his own, he can become part of the solution and a piece of the puzzle.

Last season he scored 10 goals for Watford in 34 games, showing far better form than he has done this season, where he has been in and out of the side and unable to gain any consistency.

Should he be able to recapture that kind of goalscoring form from midfield, he can become a terrific signing for Stuart Gray's side.
