On this day: £42m difference in Angel Di Maria fees; Draxler open to 'dream' Arsenal move

On the 19th November 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 19th November 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 19th November 2013…

All good other than the price

A year ago today and Manchester United were being linked with a move for Angel Di Maria.

Of course there is no shock in that. Manchester United eventually did sign the Argentine. They paid a whopping fee of around £59.7 million to bring him in from Real Madrid this summer so the links certainly had basis.

Apart from one thing, the suggested fee. According to these reports United were going to launch a £17 million bid for the superstar.

Just the small matter of being about £42 million off the mark on the price but still, the rumour had some stones.

Drax is back

German international Julian Draxler was once again discussing his future, again suggesting a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

The talented playmaker was increasingly linked with Arsenal in the winter, with a £37 million price-tag being mooted.

A year ago today, Draxler said:

"I like English football. I like the Premier League of course - it's one of the best leagues in the world," he told the BBC.

"You have big clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea - of course it's a big dream to play for one of them. I have my favourite team, but at the moment I'm at Schalke. I don't want to talk about other clubs."

Over time that interest has simmered down. His alarming injury record and dip in form have seen interest in his services wane, although they will soon return.
