Manchester United-owned Nani comments on his future

Sporting Lisbon winger Nani says that he is open to returning to his parent club Manchester United.

Nani may be enjoying himself at Sporting Lisbon, but he seems to be open to returning to Manchester United at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old moved to Sporting from United on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window after being deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Louis van Gaal.

The Portugal international winger has been in good form for his former club in the Primeira Liga, and has scored three goals in four appearances in the Champions League this campaign.

Nani is not exactly ‘back to his best’ or is in ‘breathtaking form' at the moment, but he has certainly played much better than he did last season at Old Trafford.

There have been suggestions that United could recall him from Sporting next summer, and it appears that Nani is not averse to the idea.

“Why not?” The Daily Mail quotes him as saying when asked if he would return to United. “I went out to play more and get to my best, and it is an opportunity. We will see.”

When asked about his loan spell at Sporting, Nani said: “It's great. I'm doing well. I'm trying to do my best. Things are going well and I hope it continues like that.”

One of the main problems with Nani is his consistency. Despite showing his quality in flashes, the Portuguese could never really maintain his form over the course of a season at United.

There is also the small matter of United having enough attacking players. Winger Angel di Maria’s arrival from Real Madrid in the summer has made Nani’s return to Old Trafford very tough.
