Leeds United signing Nicky Ajose scored for the under-21 side, reminding head coach Neil Redfearn he is still available for selection.
Few summer signings at any club have had as much frustration as Nicky Ajose, who has not featured for the first team since August.
The manager who signed him from Peterborough, Dave Hockaday was soon sacked, and he has not even made the bench in recent months.
He did however make the most of a rare chance in the under-21 side on Tuesday, scoring in a 3-2 loss to Sunderland.
The Leeds side boasted many fringe players, including Luke Murphy, Scott Wootton and David Norris, with Noel Hunt the other scorer for the Whites.
Even the presence of Nicky Ajose was a talking point among fans, for he has been a real missing man in recent months, fully fit yet ignored by the club hierarchy.
It's interesting timing for the 23-year-old to find the scoresheet again, as with Leeds looking revitalised under Neil Redfearn in their last fixture, he could yet make a push for a place on the bench.
Alternatively, his goal may have done the club a favour if they are looking to get him off their books either on loan shortly, or on a permanent basis in January, showing potential suitors he is fit, and ready to contribute immediately.
The same, particularly from a loan point of view applies to Noel Hunt, who has a number of forwards blocking his path to the first team.
Here is a look at how Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to Ajose scoring...
Nicky Ajose. Forgotten but not gone. He could easily play for England. Tom Cleverly did. #lufc— Jase (@Jase0909) November 18, 2014
