Three Manchester United players not impressing on loan this season

Inside Old Trafford

Here we take a look at three Manchester United players currently on loan who must do a lot better.

Manchester United have a number of players out on loan this season, with some performing considerably better than others.

While Nani and Angelo Henriquez have seized their chances at Sporting Lisbon and Dinamo Zagreb respectively, others have either not performed anywhere near their best, or have not been allowed to due to team selection.

Here we take a look at three United players who are not currently having loan stints to remember for the right reasons.

Michael Keane

Prior to this season Michael Keane was being tipped to finally make his breakthrough in United’s first team.

The departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand meant there was a space for Keane to fill, and yet he was instead sent out on loan to Burnley while the likes of Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair were given plenty of first-team action.

Keane has featured just three times for Sean Dyche’s side this season and has played just 52 minutes of top-flight football; not the impact he would have hoped for when he first moved to Turf Moor.

Nick Powell

Nick Powell signed for Leicester City in a loan move that many were expecting to prove he was ready for regular Premier League action.

Instead the midfielder had to wait until the 10th game of the season to make his debut for the Foxes and has featured for just 25 minutes to date.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder is a natural goal-scorer and many United fans believed it was only a matter of time before he forced his way into their first-team, but as things stand he has a long way to go to prove he can perform effectively and consistently at this level.

Wilfried Zaha

It was supposed to be the move that finally showed what Wilfried Zaha could do in the Premier League, but instead the winger’s temporary return to Crystal Palace has seen him continue on the same worrying slope.

Since he became Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing at United Zaha has made just four appearances for their first-team, and this season he has featured just six times for the Eagles, spending most of his time on the bench.

One goal and two assists hint at what he is capable of but he needs to do a lot more in the months ahead.
