Aston Villa have some fine young talent ready for their first-team and here are three who deserve a chance next year.
Aston Villa have benefited from the presence of some very talented young players in their squad in recent times, but there are plenty more likely to be knocking on manager Paul Lambert’s door in the months to come.
Having seen Jack Grealish blossom in recent times – and agree a new long-term contract in the process – who could be next on the Villa production line?
With 2015 fast approaching, we take a look at three young Villa players who should be given a chance either in the second half of this season or at the beginning of the following campaign.
Graham Burke is a 21-year-old secondary striker who can also operate on either wing if required.
The Republic of Ireland under-21 international has scored 18 goals in 56 appearances for Villa’s under-21 side and it will be interesting to see if the player is given a chance in Lambert’s side early next season.
Callum Robinson is a 19-year-old centre-forward who can also operate on the left wing. He is currently on loan at Preston North End where is impressing for the League One side.
Robinson has scored 19 goals in 40 games for Villa’s under-21s and he grabbed the headlines in Preston’s recent FA Cup match against Havant & Waterlooville, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 win.
The oldest of the three players listed here, 22-year-old Gary Gardner may have already played 18 matches for Villa but he is currently some way from the first-team as he enjoys a loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The central midfielder is an England under-21 international who deserves to return to Lambert’s first-team plans following some fine work in the second-tier.
