Sutton: Forster deserves to play for England, Hart is under pressure

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton feels Southampton's Fraser Forster should be given a chance for England at the expense of Manchester City man Joe Hart.

Celtic great Chris Sutton believes that Fraser Forster deserves his chance as England's number one.

The former Bhoys forward thinks that Joe Hart has come under pressure because of Forster's consistently brilliant form and he suggests that the Southampton man should be given a chance to show his quality on the international stage.

Forster has two England caps to date, but he will be hoping to add to that tally tonight when the Three Lions take on Scotland and Sutton would clearly be pleased if the 26-year-old was given the nod.

"They have issues all over the pitch," he said to the Daily Mail. "I don't think there are enough good English players and the current England team is underwhelming.

"At the back, I think Joe Hart is under pressure. I like Fraser Forster and I think he deserves an opportunity."

Hart's displays in goal for Manchester City have actually improved this season, and he looks to be in his best form for a long time.

However, Forster has the most clean-sheets of any goalkeeper in England and has been a major reason behind Southampton's success so far.

The 'keeper, who completed a summer move to Saints from Celtic, has been rock-solid between the sticks at the South-Coast club and has continued to show the fine form which made him such a success north of the border.

If he was to be handed the chance to play at Parkhead tonight he would likely be given a better reception than the majority of the England team, and he should feel at home in a ground where he was so impressive previously.

The Three Lions go into the game having won their first four Euro 2016 qualifying matches, but they realise that they are still a long way off being able to challenge for the trophy in France.
