Martinez gives update on Everton trio; reveals extent of Baines blow

Roberto Martinez has been speaking about three Everton stars who are currently suffering from injuries.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has given injury updates on some of his stars ahead of the weekend fixtures.

The Toffees have a number of players away on international duty but others who were unable to go due to injury concerns, and now the Spaniard has filled fans in on the latest at Goodison Park.

Leighton Baines had to withdraw from the England squad and now Martinez has given an update on the left-back’s condition.

“Scans revealed he had a grade one hamstring injury,” Martinez said. “Those injuries depend on the individual and how quickly they can heal.

“Leighton is responding well to treatment. It is too early to say how long he is going to be out but we remain positive.”

The Everton boss also spoke about Darron Gibson and James McCarthy, revealing that the former is suffering soreness to his knee while the latter has not trained this week.

“It’s a soft tissue injury,” Martinez said, “like Leighton Baines has, where you need to take it day by day to see how he recovers.”

Everton face West Ham United at Goodison on Saturday with the Toffees currently 10th in the table, four points behind the fourth-placed Hammers.
