Cristiano Ronaldo may have left Manchester United back in 2009, but he is fondly remembered by the club's fans.
The 29-year-old was on the books of the Red Devils for six years from 2003 until 2009, during which time he established himself as one of the club’s greatest ever.
It was at Old Trafford that Ronaldo gained worldwide fame, winning the Premier League three times, the Champions League and the FA Cup once each, and the League Cup twice.
Ronaldo was also awarded the Ballon d’Or award in 2008 for his impressive performances for United that year.
On Tuesday evening, the former Sporting Lisbon star returned to Old Trafford for only the second time since he left in the summer of 2009.
Ronaldo was leading his country Portugal against Argentina in a friendly international, and he was understandably welcomed by the United fans like a hero (as shown in the picture above).
Reports continue to circulate that Ronaldo will return to United at some stage in his career. From Tuesday’s reception it is evident that he will be welcomed back as a hero.
