Former Sporting Lisbon director Paulo De Alvandro believes it is "inevitable" that Louis van Gaal will want the in-form Nani back at Manchester United.
Nani has had an excellent start to the campaign since re-joining his former club on a season-long loan in August, with the polarising winger recording five goals and four assists in 14 total appearances.
Recently voted the Portuguese League's player of the season so far, the 28-year-old’s performances have fuelled speculation that Van Gaal could opt to activate a clause in his contract to end the loan in the winter transfer window.
While both Nani and Sporting claim to be unaware of such an agreement, Alvandro thinks the Dutchman will now be intent on getting him back to Old Trafford as soon as possible, having realised his earlier mistake.
"It is inevitable that Manchester United will want the player back at the end of the season," he was quoted as saying by A Bola. "Van Gaal will be sorry to not have gambled on him sooner."
While Nani himself has remained reserved on his United career since the start of the new season, the 82-times capped international did admit earlier this month that it was nice to receive recognition for his performances, following a lacklustre couple of seasons in Manchester.
"I think there is no clause but I leave that for the others to solve," he said. "It is always good to feel the affection of the fans. They want me back because they recognise that I am in good form and can be an asset for the club.
"That is football. Sometimes we are praised and sometimes we are criticised."
