Lazio have joined the hunt for Aston Villa's Ron Vlaar, according to reports in Italy.
The Dutch defender has been the subject of much speculation, with a number of clubs reportedly taking a look at him, and it seems Lazio are next to join the queue for his signature.
Vlaar is thought to be available in January at a reduced price due to the fact that his contract expires next summer and he has not yet committed his future to Villa Park.
The likes of Manchester United and Arsenal have both been rumoured to be interested in the commanding centre-back and it now seems that he is attracting attention from abroad.
Vlaar's stock rose after a brilliant World Cup saw him unexpectedly star for Holland.
The 29-year-old played a pivotal role for Holland as they claimed a third placed finish in Brazil and he has carried this level of display back into the club season.
Although Vlaar has missed more of the season than he would have liked through injury, he has impressed when on the pitch.
His partnership at the heart of the Claret and Blue defence with Philippe Senderos was one of the major reasons behind Villa's good early season form.
Paul Lambert's side were unbeaten in their first four games, but they have struggled since and they will be hoping to break out of this run soon.
To do this, they will need Vlaar in the team and at the top of his game, but his uncertain future is a worry.
The side are in a relegation battle and they need all of their players to be fully focused on dragging the side up the table, rather than being distracted by rumours about their future.
Villa are understood to have tried to secure Vlaar's future by offering him a new deal, but he is demanding increased wages and, as a result, looks set to exit on a free transfer next summer unless the club do decide to cash-in on him in January.
