Report - Chelsea to offer Nemanja Matic new deal to ward off Real Madrid interest

Matic still has four years left on his current deal, but Goal suggest he could be offered improved terms.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic will be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge, partly to fight off interest from European Champions Real Madrid according to a report from Goal.

Matic rejoined Chelsea last January and has been a rock in the heart of Jose Mourinho's midfield, as he has provided the platform to allow the more attacking and flamboyant players to perform at the top end of the field.

Although the Serbian has four years remaining on his contract, he is to be rewarded with an improved deal for his performances since his reunion with the club.

If true, it is of little wonder that Matic is attracting the interest of the biggest name in football as you would be hard pressed to find a midfielder that does the job Matic does so effectively, and to such a high standard.

Though not renowned for his goals, Matic has found the net on three occasions for Chelsea this season, but it will be his ability to break up the play that will attract any potential suitors, and make him a firm favourite amongst the Chelsea supporters.

Matic has so far won 74% of his tackles this season, having made a total of 39. Given that Chelsea are top of the table and probably spend most of their time trying to put their opponents under the pump, having him in the middle of the park getting through so much work demonstrates the contribution he makes for Jose Mourinho's side.

It is of little wonder that the Blues would want to tie the 26-year-old down to a more lucrative deal to keep hold of one of the Premier League's best midfielders.
