'One of the best' - Argentina boss Gerardo Martino hails Angel Di Maria's ability

Angel Di Maria Argentina

Argentina boss Gerardo Martino has praised Manchester United star Angel Di Maria's ability as he prepares to take on Portugal in a friendly tomorrow.

Argentina manager Gerardo Martino has hailed Angel Di Maria as one of the best players in the world.

The Argentine boss believes that the Manchester United midfielder has so much versatility that he is an asset to any squad.

Martino has clearly enjoyed linking up with Di Maria during the international break and he praised the attacking midfielder's ability earlier today.

"I have to say that he is one of the very top players in world football," he said. "He can play a number of different roles expertly and adapt to anywhere the manager asks him to play.

"Historically, United is normally around the top places in the league in this country. Having [our] players here is very positive."

Di Maria started in his nation's 2-1 friendly victory over Croatia earlier in the week and he is now preparing to take on Portugal in midweek.

The 26-year-old is likely to play a part in the match against Cristiano Ronaldo and his international teammates, which takes at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Di Maria should feel right at home in the match, especially as he has been training at Carrington all week.

The former Real Madrid man has wasted no time settling in at his new club and he already looks the star-turn in United's squad.

Dazzlingly quick, courageous and capable in possession, Di Maria has destroyed defences with his skill and creativity during his time in England so far.

Already he has helped move United up the table and it is easy to see why his national boss values him so highly.

Although Lionel Messi is still the main-man for Argentina, players like Di Maria, who are tireless in their work-rate, provide him with a platform to perform on and he is rightfully earning plaudits.

United will be hoping that Di Maria continues to show this form when he returns from international break and club football returns again.

Their first match comes at the weekend, when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in what looks a challenging contest.
