England’s latest Euro 2016 qualifying game is over, another three points have been put on the board and focus switches to the intimidating game ahead in Glasgow against Scotland tomorrow night.
Managers everywhere will be hoping that their players don’t fall victim to injuries with Manchester United losing two of their best players in the international break; David De Gea and midfielder Danny Blind.
We’ve cast our eyes back to this day last year to see which stories were making the headlines.
‘Flamini’s row with the Arsenal kit man’
Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini got into a row with the kit man at the Gunners for cutting his sleeves before the game against Manchester United.
It’s tradition at Arsenal that all players wear the same shirt for games, with the Frenchman wanting to be the exception before the loss at Old Trafford.
“Vic and Mathieu had heated words at the end of the game - It didn’t help that the shirts were ones with a poppy on, that are sometimes auctioned off to raise money for charity,” a source told the Daily Star.
‘Dream ticket for Leeds United fans’
A potential takeover of Leeds United involving Lucas Radebe was described as a ‘dream ticket’ for Leeds United fans.
The Leeds legend and former captain was involved in a consortium which saw an offer to takeover Leeds rejected by GFH Capital.
“If Lucas is involved with a consortium or group who want to either buy the club or an interest in it, that will generate interest among supporters without a shadow of a doubt. It’s almost a dream ticket,” said Supporters Trust Chairman Gary Cooper.
‘Moyes eyes Iniesta coup’
The Mirror claimed former Manchester United manager David Moyes was considering a move to sign Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta.
It was around this time last year that speculation started building over a possible winter move from the Old Trafford team for the Spaniard.
He didn’t move in last winter’s transfer window with Moyes sacked before the end of the season.
