Liverpool latest: Gerrard transfer rumours are 'nonsense', say Italian giants

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield...

Gerrard to Inter? Nonsense!

When Inter Milan chose to sack Walter Mazzarri and re-appoint Roberto Mancini, there was a reasonable expectation that a number of Premier League players would be linked with moves to the San Siro after Mancini's time with Manchester City.

Alongside names such as Aleksandar Kolarov, Matija Nastasic and Edin Dzeko, Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard was linked with the Nerazzurri, with doubts over his long-term future at Anfield.

However, FC Inter News suggest that the club's director of football Marco Fassone has made it clear that the story is 'nonsense' and Gerrard isn't a target for Inter and Mancini - a relief for Liverpool fans who still believe the 34-year-old has plenty to offer.

Benitez denies Napoli interest in Balotelli

With Liverpool struggling, the criticism for striker Mario Balotelli continues. A £16m signing from AC Milan this summer, Balotelli was bought to be the replacement for Luis Suarez, but has scored just two goals for the Reds in all competitions.

His Anfield woes have led to speculation that he could make an early return to his native Italy, with Napoli boss Rafael Benitez - formerly Liverpool manager - says he isn't interested in signing Balotelli.

"Liverpool fans are loyal. If he works in the field then they will support him," said Benitez. "Mario coming to us in January, though? There is absolutely nothing to this, it is just a hypothesis that I have never considered," he told Italian press.

Roma join the race for Neto

Balotelli isn't the only problem for Liverpool though, with goalkeeper Simon Mignolet enduring a difficult season on Merseyside.

Speculation suggests that Rodgers wants to bring in another goalkeeper in January, and Fiorentina's Brazilian international Neto is an alleged target.

With his contract expiring next summer, Neto is likely to be hot property in the coming months, and speculation in Italy suggests that Roma have joined the race for his signature as a possible replacement for Morgan De Sanctis.
