It's not easy to pick out Tottenham's best signing, but is it Eric Dier?

Tottenham Hotspur's summer signings have again largely disappointed, but has Eric Dier been the best of the bunch?

Tottenham's summer signings have failed to impress by and large so far, even seemingly unable to win over their head coach.

Mauricio Pochettino has been reluctant to pick Benjamin Stambouli or Ben Davies, Michel Vorm was always just a back-up, while whenever Federico Fazio gets picked he seems to pick up a red card.

So when it comes to choosing the best Spurs signing so far, it's slim pickings.

Yet there is one addition who is a real bright spot, and could go onto become one of the club's all time transfer bargains.

While £26 million was clearly wasted on Roberto Soldado a year earlier, the addition of Eric Dier for a shrewd £4 million is a steal.

Dier is a future senior England international, and Spurs beat off strong competition to sign him from Sporting Lisbon with Manchester United also reported admirers.

The youngster's versatility enables him to play at right-back or centre-half, which is the position he says he hopes to eventually hold down.

Dier has made nine seven Premier League starts to date, even scoring a memorable winner on his debut against London rivals West Ham.

He has found himself left out of the side in the league lately, ever since the 2-1 loss to Newcastle, and perhaps it is right of Pochettino to give him a break as his form began to dip.

The defender has shown enough early on to suggest Tottenham have bought astutely, which over the past couple of seasons, they have not been able to say too often.
