Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has a number of things to consider this week ahead of the Blackburn Rovers game.
Neil Redfearn will be fidgeting around, enduring a difficult wait ahead of the game against Blackburn Rovers this weekend as Leeds United were denied the opportunity to quickly back up an impressive win against Blackpool in their last game.
That 3-1 win seems like an age ago but it’s important for Redfearn to keep spirits high and focus hard on that game against Blackburn, which will be much more difficult than the game against the Tangerines.
Here are five things he’ll likely be mulling over this week.
Alex Cairns tragically lose his brother in a car accident, which will impact morale this week as Redfearn and Cairns’ teammates rally around him to provide undoubted support. The young goalkeeper will have time off as Redfearn looks to protect him and his other players this week.
Does Giuseppe Bellusci come straight back into the team? Liam Cooper and Jason Pearce were superb in the game against Blackpool and look as though they could have a very strong relationship moving forward over the rest of the season.
Mowatt and Cook
Redfearn will be monitoring the pair closely after he asked them to train with the Leeds first team rather than linking up with their England youth international teammates. It’s important Redfearn addresses any feelings of either player being conflicted over the last two weeks.
Leeds haven’t won a game on the road since mid-September with the victory at Bournemouth when Redfearn was only caretaker manager. That’s a trend he has to change quickly as Leeds look to climb up the table and consolidate near the play-off places.
There is a lot of speculation at the moment about Kalvin Phillips coming into the first team at Leeds under Redfearn. It will be interesting to see if he makes the match day squad against Blackburn as the under-21 side don’t have a fixture until next week.
