Catalan newspaper Sport claims Barcelona are out of the running to sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina, which offers hope to Manchester United.
United are in the group of teams thought to have been following the situation of the £50 million rated Colombian in Serie A, with Louis van Gaal thought to be considering pulling off another big money move for the Old Trafford club.
However, as Sport reports a positive for United, they also report a negative.
“He was one of the names of the summer, which Barca have finally discarded and Madrid have entered the bidding,” reports Sport.
“Barca does not know whether they will be able to sign players in the next summer market.”
On the one hand it’s positive news for United because Barca are one side that could have given them a serious problem if reports of LvG’s interest in Cuadrado are accurate.
On the other hand, their report mentions that Real Madrid are now interested in him and Carlo Ancelotti’s side have proven time and time again over the last few years that they’re capable of doing big money deals consistently.
From United’s point of view, they took care of the left midfield issue over the summer when they signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid in a deal worth just under £60 million.
They could use a winger over on the right although Antonio Valencia is an experienced Premier League option and a solid player when he’s not being drafted in to cover at right-back due to a long injury list.
The situation could still change if Barca’s efforts to get a transfer ban are reduced, which would mean they can make a move for the player next summer. However, for now, United are a small step closer to getting their man.
