Arsene Wenger comments on Newcastle United star Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

Arsene Wenger has been discussing Newcastle United loanee Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Newcastle United loanee Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was not considered part of manager Alan Pardew's first team plans, sent on loan to Roma instead.

His form there has been largely promising, barring a 7-1 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich, sufficient enough at least to earn him an international call-up for France, and a starting spot.

He featured in Les Bleus match with Albania on Friday, where he appeared to pick up a minor muscle injury and could face a three weeks on the sidelines.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger commented on him when quizzed about the French national team on BeIN Sports, stating:

"Yanga-Mbiwa has made a good start to the season with Roma. He seemed to lack a bit of confidence.

"He has the quality to win. Maybe in that game, he is not confident."

France could only draw 1-1 against Albania, and Wenger was not hugely impressed with Yanga-Mbiwa's highly rated partner Raphael Varane either.

Perhaps surprised to start, it's understandable Yanga-Mbiwa may have been nervous ahead of the fixture, but will be disappointed not have kept a clean sheet given the supposed inferiority of the opposition.

Yanga-Mbiwa recently hinted he is already eyeing a Newcastle exit, commenting earlier this month:

""I had lost myself at Newcastle. Maybe it was too cloudy! It wasn't easy. Now I have found a bit of match fitness and a team that plays real football.

"I need to be a little wary after the injury, but I'm slowly getting back to my best."
