The best fragrantly festive candles

Christmas Candle

Fill your home with the scent of Christmas

I rarely buy flowers for people, but I do buy candles. Candles can say a lot of things. They can say: “I’m sorry.” When they’re lit, their flames can say: “Hey, don’t forget me!” And they can make the coldest night feel cosier, and the dingiest flat a little bit Dickens. In the run-up to Christmas, I buy them a little obsessively, drawn in by scents of cloves, berries and tangerines. This year I’ll be putting Crabtree & Evelyn’s Hollyberry (£28, crabtree-evelyn.co.uk) into a few people’s hands before the festivities get underway, and I’ll be inhaling the smell of an Alpine forest in my own living room (Diptyque’s Resine Candle £45, diptyqueparis.com), until I can go and buy an actual tree.
