On this day: Van Persie on Januzaj as Arsenal star signs new deal

Szczesny Training

On the 16th November 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 16th November 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 16th November 2013…

RVP on Januzaj

Robin van Persie was waxing lyrical about young Manchester United star Adnan Januzaj.

The Belgian had just broke into the Manchester United side that season under David Moyes, and RVP was certain United had one hell of a talent on their hands:

"Over the years I've seen so many young players, and I can honestly say that of all the young players I've seen he is right up there in the top one or two."

Szczesny new deal

A year ago today and Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny signed a new long-term deal at the club.

The Polish stopper had been under some pressure after some recent poor results and apparent interest in big names like Iker Casillas.

However he had a good start to Arsenal's season in 2013-14 and that was rewarded with a 'long term deal' although the full length of that deal was not confirmed by the club.

Arsene Wenger said of the deal:

"He continues to grow and improve all the time too, so he has the potential to be even better.

"He can be an important part of Arsenal Football Club for many years to come."

De Bruyne future

Kevin De Bruyne was discussing his time and future at Chelsea, the Belgian midfielder saying the club would decide if he would go out on loan in the January transfer window.

The talented midfielder had showed flashes of his talent at Chelsea, but never truly made the impact necessary at Stamford Bridge.

He had been on loan at Werder Bremen the previous season and it looked like he would be loaned out again.

Instead, he was sold. Chelsea received a staggering £18 million for the player and he has since gone on to become a valued Bundesliga star.

Not that table-topping Chelsea seem to be missing him.
