Reported Manchester United target Joao Miranda has told reporters that he has heard nothing of the Premier League outfit's interest before reiterating his desire to remain at current club Atletico Madrid.
The £18 million-rated centre-back was linked with a move to the Red Devils throughout the summer after impressing during Atleti’s title-winning campaign last season.
Speculation was high following the necessity of replacing the departed centre-back duo Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, but a deal never materialised.
As the January transfer window approaches, United’s defence to date has been far from convincing and a number of injuries has hampered boss Louis van Gaal’s start to life in the Old Trafford hot-seat.
Recent reports indicate that United are planning on going back in for the Brazilian defender, but Miranda has warned them not to bother as he tells reporters of his desire to remain in the Spanish capital.
“I know nothing about it [United’s interest], I only know that I want to finish my contract at Atletico. It’s my club, I still have two years left and I am very happy at Atletico,” he is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper AS.
Miranda has started 10 La Liga matches for Los Cochoneros this season, averaging a steady 1.6 tackles and 3.3 effective clearances per match.
Since moving to the Vicente Calderon stadium in 2011, the 30-year-old has won the Europa League, the Copa Del Rey and the club’s first La Liga title since 1996.
